Conversions.

A tip for converting non-metric quantities.
Do the non-metric conversions as follows:
Multiplying a number by 1 does NOT CHANGE the number.
Multiply the quantity that has to be converted by a conversion factor that is equal to 1. Make the conversion factor, a fraction, so that the units that are not required cancel out.
For example: convert 5 pints to litre. Make the conversion factor so that pints will cancel out. Put litre in the teller and pints in the noemer. The unit int will now cancel out and the answer is in litre - which is exactly what you want. Furthermore: 1 pint = 0,5683 litre {obtained from a table}.
0,5683 litre
The conversion factor is now   --------------------- .
1 pint
0,5683 litre
Therefore 5 pints   =   5 pints   X   ----------------------     =   2,842 litre
1 pint
Use the conversion table below to make the conversion factor. The following abbreviations apply:
in : inch;        ft : foot or feet;       yd : yard;        sq : square       cub. : cubic        cc : cubcic cm
gal : gallon;       pt : pint;       oz : ounce;       lb : pound
